How to Light Incense Charcoal the Right Way

  1. Place your burner on a heat-safe surface, away from curtains and out of children's reach.
  2. Hold one piece with tongs, never with your fingers. Grip tongs are made for this.
  3. Light the edge with a torch lighter, like Ignis, or any flame. Carbon catches in seconds.
  4. Put it in the burner and wait until the surface turns to grey ash. That is when the heat is even.
  5. Add a small piece of bukhoor on top. Add more once it has melted.
  6. Let the charcoal burn out in the burner, and empty it only when it is fully cold.

Common mistakes

  • Adding bukhoor before the charcoal turns to ash. You get a burnt smell instead of the scent.
  • Putting too much bukhoor on at once.
  • Using charcoal that has its own smell. It mixes with your bukhoor.
